the mound on Thursday night at home against the Mariners and Jason Vargas (3-3,
3.79 ERA). Lefthander Sabathia wasn't hindered by his sore biceps last time out,
holding the Mets to just one earned run on three hits over seven innings in a
victory. Lefthander Vargas wasn't nearly as effective in his last trip to the
mound, as the Dodgers pounded him for five earned runs on nine hits over only 4
2-3 innings.
There are just two other games on the American League schedule for Thursday,
with the White Sox at Kansas City and Baltimore at the Angels. The Orioles will
send Jeremy Guthrie (6-7, 5.11 ERA) to the hill in that last matchup, while the
Angels will turn to John Lackey (2-3, 5.06 ERA) in their quest for a win at
home.

The Diamondbacks and Reds will get the day started
for the National League on Thursday, with early-afternoon action in Cincinnati.
The D-Backs will send Doug Davis (3-8, 3.28 ERA) to the mound in the day game;

he's given up just one earned run over 14 innings of work. Righthander Aaron
