NFL Divisional Betting Breakdown – NFC East by Damon D
This is easily the NFL’s most rivalry-riddled division, with each team and their fan base hating on each other even more each time they play.
You can’t put a price on this level of hatred, because with the animosity comes the freedom for any of these teams to spend and trade their way to a better team without consequences. Fan bases don’t just accept it, they demand it.
Take the Washington Redskins, so sick of continually underachieving in the division that they managed to woo talent from all over the league; getting quarterback Donovan McNabb from division rivals Philadelphia and signing running backs Willie Parker and Larry Johnson.
The Eagles emerged as a great offensive team at times last season, but after losing McNabb to the ‘Skins, Kevin Kolb has to take the reigns in Philly and has some big shoes to fill.
The Giants were all over the map in 2009, starting off with five big wins in a row, then losing four straight and ending the season at 8 – 8. With their power running game missing, and their pass rush non-existent, Eli Manning was exposed badly much of the 2009 season.
The Cowboys have emerged from the off-season as top Super Bowl betting contenders for 2010. Dallas was impressive much of the 2009 season and even got the playoff monkey off their backs in January. Their playoff campaign was shortened by a very powerful Minnesota squad in the divisional round, but Dallas showed a glimpse of playoff moxy in their play.
So who takes the most rival-maddened division in football in 2010? Let’s have a look:
Dallas Cowboys +125
From top to bottom the Cowboys are the most talented NFC East team, not doing much to improve themselves but doing nothing to hurt their team in 2010.
Philadelphia Eagles +270
The Eagles are a giant question mark heading into this season, doing little to improve their team, and losing their star quarterback. His replacement Kevin Kolb looked impressive in a handful of games in 2009, and Michael Vick is in the background, but so much is up in the air in Philly that it makes it impossible to place a bet on them.
New York Giants +275
The Giants look to be in a downward spiral. If inconsistency is your only consistent attribute, then big changes need to be made. Eli Manning needs to get better, but he also needs run support and protection. Not sure if we’ll see either in 2010.
Washington Redskins +550
Washington is looking to flex their offensive muscles in 2010, and acquires a proven NFL Pro Bowl caliber quarterback to jump-start the offense. If McNabb can do more with the pieces that were at Jason Campbell’s disposal, this Redskins team might surprise a few people…that is if McNabb can stay on the field for all 16 games.
2010 NFC East Standings Prediction:
Dallas Cowboys(+125) 13 – 3
Philadelphia Eagles (+270) 9 - 7
Washington Redskins (+550) 8 - 8
New York Giants (+275) 8 - 8
